SINGAPORE, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 0.46 percent or 15.77 points to close at 3428.18.

A total of 2.72 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 3.53 billion Singapore dollars (about 2.64 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 220 to 216.
