TEHRAN, May 6 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed, and 36 others injured in a massive fire that erupted Tuesday at a shopping center some 30 km west of Iran's capital Tehran, Iranian state TV IRIB reported.
The shopping center, named Arghavan Commercial Complex, is located in Andisheh city. The building was home to over 250 commercial units.
The Iranian Students' New Agency (ISNA) quoted Ali Paidaran, head of the fire department of Andisheh city, as saying that the blaze was reported at 16:40 local time (1310 GMT), following which firefighting teams were immediately dispatched.
Paidaran added that the fire spread due to the composite materials used in the building's facade.
The ISNA cited Iran's Red Crescent Society as saying that seven operational rescue teams, along with search-and-rescue dogs, were at the scene of the incident, the cause of which has not been determined yet. ■
