SEOUL, June 15 (Xinhua) -- A majority of South Korean people assessed positively the summit between top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump, a local survey showed Friday.

According to the Gallup Korea poll, 66 percent of respondents said the DPRK-U.S. summit was well done. Only 11 percent negatively saw the summit.

The result was based on a survey of 1,007 voters conducted Thursday. It had 3.1 percentage points in margin of error with a 95-percent confidence level.

Kim and Trump held the summit in Singapore Tuesday, agreeing to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in exchange for security guarantees for the DPRK.

Those who positively viewed the Kim-Trump summit said sitting down face-to-face itself was the best outcome of the summit. They also replied that the agreement on denuclearization and peace regime was seen positively.

Support for South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his ruling Democratic Party also picked up after the successful DPRK-U.S. summit.

Moon's approval rating was 79 percent this week, up 4 percentage points from two weeks earlier. Support for the Democratic Party gained 3 percentage points to 56 percent, the highest figure ever recorded by the party.

The Democratic Party won a landslide victory in the local elections Tuesday to elect 4,016 administrative, legislative and educational posts as well as in the by-elections to fill 12 vacant parliamentary seats.
